According to some whose minds and hearts have been tainted by secularism, the bible is merely the invention of men and not the inspired Word of God. Theology, the language by which finite men put into words that which has been divinely revealed, is considered by the secularist mind as nothing more than fluff. The Doctrine and Dogma of the Church is not immutable nor inspired by the Holy Spirit but an invention of religious fanatics. The Church is not a divine institution founded by Christ, since Christ was merely a nice man that lived once upon a time. The hierarchy of the Church cannot meet in Ecumenical Council and be inspired by the Holy Spirit to hammer out what was divinely revealed to the Church and articulate the Faith because the Church is not divine and the hierarchy have no authority according to the secularist mind. The Apostolic Succession means nothing to the secularist because it is insignificant since Christ died in vain and Apostles were fools.
Today we celebrate the lives of two people who thought otherwise. Sts. Peter and Paul the Apostles gave their lives because they professed their faith in Christ as God, the divine institution of the Church was founded on Peter the Rock who professed before Christ: "You are the Christ the Son of the living God." These men served as the first Apostles, the first bishops of the Church; these men took their role seriously enough that they passed down to us through the laying on of hands what they received. These men were men of integrity and loyalty as were the countless other Orthodox Christians that gave their lives, shed their blood for these timeless truths of our holy Orthodox Faith.
The secularist is a nihilist; a vain selfish authoritarian who decrees the only truth are the words coming forth from his/her mouth, yet the Bible, the Church, the Hierarchy, the divinely revealed Truths of the Faith, objective morality are wrong. It is a sad day in the history of contemporary 'Christians' who live their lives in the trap of the secularist mind and spirit. This is spiritual nihilism. It is a refashioning of Christ, the Church, the Bible, morality into their own image and likeness.
Let us lift our voices with St. Peter and Paul and the countless holy martyrs who gave their lives for Christ, Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life. Let us unite with them as we profess, until our last breath, the divinely revealed Truths of our Orthodox Faith, even if it means being despised for our loyalty.
Christ our God give us the grace necessary to persevere in following your Church and not our own designs.
